THE LIFE OF NELSON MANDELA
Rolihlahla Mandela was born on 18 July 1918, in South Africa. Later he was given the name Nelson by a teacher at school. When Nelson was 9, his father died. He went on with his studies, and he became a lawyer in 1942. He spent 27 years in prison for trying to overthrow the pro-apartheid goverment. He became the first black President of South Africa in 1994 and he retired in 1999. Nelson Mandela died in Johannesburg, South Africa on the 5 of December in 2013 following a lung illness.
